Deck the Halls: OC man puts on holiday spectacular at home

OCEAN CITY, Md. – If you’re driving through Ocean City during the holiday season, it may feel like you’re seeing the North Pole. But it’s actually Mark Jahnke’s house.

“It’s just like Halloween, it brings smiles to people’s faces, and the joy that it brings people is amazing. I love seeing the people come by and just looking at everything,” Mark said.

And he’s really taking his decorations to the next level.

“I’ve got about 135 hours into it so far,” Mark explained.

The magic behind the holiday spectacular isn’t anything new to Mark, though. He’s been perfecting his set up for years.

“Christmas of 2017 here was the first year,” he said.

And with all of that practice under his belt, he’s got his decorations, and his light display, down to a science.

“Everything is set up on a timer between my computer and wifi switches, so everything comes on at 5:15 every day, shuts off at 10 p.m. on the weeknights and then midnight on the weekends,” Mark explained.

And if you’re looking at all of it thinking, ‘Wow, that’s a lot of holiday decorations,’ Mark says he’s got even more up his sleeve, he was just a bit delayed this year.

“There’s a lot of pieces that I’m still waiting on that, because of the pandemic, they’ve been on back order because the factories are backed up,” he said.

All of this – every Santa Clause, reindeer, and candy cane¬† just to bring a smile to people’s faces after what’s been a challenging year.

“With the pandemic and social distancing, it is going to be tough this year, and having people be able to get out of the house to see something that they enjoy is great to me,” Mark said.

And hey, what better way to spread Christmas cheer than putting on a show for everyone near?

“It seems to be spreading this year, so we’ve pulled some decorations down the street, and there’s more people decorating,” Mark said.

If you’re interested in seeing the home, you can find the address on Mark’s Facebook page called Caine Woods Christmas House.
