Cape field hockey wins their tenth state title in program history
DOVER, Del.- With two goals from Sam Connors and another from Reagan Ciabattoni, the No. 1 seed Cape Henlopen Vikings defeated Polytech 3-0 for their fourth straight state title, tenth in program history. Polytech finished their season with a 6-6 record and the number 7 seed in the DIAA DI playoffs.
Polytech kept things very close in the first quarter, keeping one of the top offenses in the entire state off the board through 15 minutes. Things started to fall apart for the Panthers in the second when the Vikings drew a corner and Sam Connors got the ball in the cage for the games opening score. Connors would capitalize on another corner a few minutes later to extend the Cape lead to 2-0 at the half.
In the second half, Cape’s defense kept their foot on the gas keeping the Panthers offense off the board. The Vikings got an insurance goal from Duke commit Reagan Ciabattoni late as Cape held off Polytech for the 3-0 win and their fourth straight DI state title. Cape finished their season at 11-1 with the number one seed in the DIAA DI playoffs
