HALO feeding those in need with Thanksgiving dinner

SALISBURY, Md. – While many are enjoying Thanksgiving at home, HALO has a big Thanksgiving dinner planned for folks in need. Food Service Coordinator Yolanda Polk says they’re expecting about 100 people at the meal. That means plenty of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato biscuits, pie, potato salad, and candied yams to go around.

Polk says that all that food is 100% donated through charity. She tells 47ABC that’s why it’s important to make sure people can get a Thanksgiving meal when they might not be able to otherwise. “Some people are outside in the cold and have nowhere to go and no family. They have no food. So HALO offers them Thanksgiving dinner free of charge. They can come in and everything is 100% carryout,” said Polk.

Eric Kasopsky is planning on eating Thanksgiving dinner at HALO. He says knowing a hot meal is coming his way gives him peace of mind. “It’s very nice. The people are very friendly and it’s a place I can relax and lay my head at night and not worry about anything,” said Kasopsky.

The Thanksgiving dinner is taking place between 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Polk says anyone who is hungry and wants to get a hot meal is welcome. She adds that HALO is already planning ahead for a big Christmas dinner next month.
