Delmar field hockey wins fifth straight over Cape since ’16
LEWES, Del.- Behind two Ella Shockley goals in the third quarter, the Delmar Wildcats defeated Cape Henlopen 2-0 to move to 4-0 on the year. Cape drops to 4-1 on the year.
With wind gusts up to 40 mph in Lewes today, it was poised to be a classic showdown between Delmar and Cape Henlopen. The Wildcats offense was bringing the heat all game but Cape keeper Julie Heffernan was up of the task. The senior came up with ten saves in the game facing 13 shots. Heffernan stood her ground for the whole first half and most of the third quarter until Ella Shockley scored two goals in the third, the second assisted by Maci Bradford. Wildcats keeper Kelly Davis only faced four shots and saved three of them as Delmar held on to beat Cape 2-0.
The Wildcats travel to Laurel Thursday looking to stay undefeated when take on the Bulldogs, the Vikings host Smyrna Friday looking to get back in the win column.
