VOTAMOS launches text campaign to get LatinX voters to the polls

DELAWARE – The ACLU of Delaware is teaming up with the VOTAMOS We Vote Coalition to get LatinX voters to the polls.  The organizations launched a campaign where they identified and sent text messages to 10,500 LatinX voters.

The texts provide links to resources for those voters. “In every single election issues that are important to the Latino community are on the ballot, and this election is no different. So whether it is healthcare or education or immigration reform or justice reform – all of those things are on the ballot,” said Executive Director of the ACLU of Delaware Mike Brickner.

The Delaware Hispanic Commission says because of how COVID-19 has impacted the voting process, it’s important to make sure voters know what to do come election day. “The beautiful thing that we have in Delaware is that we are so small and we can all cooperate. We just called on all the wonderful organizations to support this effort,” said Co-Chair of the Delaware Hispanic Commission Charito Calvachi-Mateyko.

Calvachi-Mateyko adds that voters of all kind – including Latinx voters – need to make sure their voices are heard come November. “This democracy exists because we participate. We own it. We lead. We tell the governors and the legislators what to do and where to go because it’s our money, and it keeps this government going,” said Calvachi-Mateyko.
