October marks dog adoption awareness month

GEORGETOWN, Del. – If you’ve ever thought about adopting a dog, it turns out there may be no better month than now. October is Dog Adoption Awareness Month.

While the month shines a light on man or woman’s best friend and all that dogs have to offer, it’s really about raising awareness about dog adoption and the motto adopt don’t shop.

Linda Torelli with the Brandywine Valley SPCA says dog adoption and rescuing is so important because it saves the lives of dogs who need homes.

“When you rescue, you’re saving a life that potentially could otherwise be lost, whereas when you buy from a breeder, that life was created just for someone’s revenue string,” Torelli said.

Starting this Saturday, the Brandywine Valley SPCA will be hosting their “Find Your Boo” Halloween special, where all adult dogs (and cats!) will only have a $31 adoption fee.
