Housing Choice Voucher Program wait list opened to Lower Eastern Shore counties

MARYLAND – The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is opening up its waitlist for assistance on the Lower Eastern Shore. Residents in Caroline, Dorchester, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties can now apply for the Housing Choice Voucher Program. The program is run with federal funds – and helps low-income families, elderly folks, and people with disabilities pay for housing.

Director of Multifamily Housing Gregory Hare with the Department of Housing and Community Development says especially now, many folks need help with housing more than ever. “Folks that serve our country, our parents, our grandparents, folks like you and me who need this assistance during the pandemic. Because the assistance is based on their income, when a household loses their income in the case of employment shutting down or people being laid off, the program really steps in and increases the amount of rental assistance,” said Hare.

Hare adds that the selection process is completely randomized. The waitlist opens on November 2nd at 9 a.m. and closes November 30th at 5 p.m. To apply for the wait list, click here.
