Delaware Dept. of Public Health calls for COVID-19 safety while trick or treating

DELAWARE – Halloween is just around the corner. But this year it’s obviously going to look a little different. you’re a parent, you’re probably wondering how you can keep your kids safe from COVID-19 while trick or treating.

The Delaware Division of Public Health says people should make sure they wear masks and social distance while doing certain activities. Those include pumpkin picking, indoor gatherings, or trick or treating.

Director of the DPH Dr. Karyl Rattay says there are creative solutions when it comes to safely celebrating. “Traditional trick or treat we don’t recommend this year. Door to door trick or treat. You can do trick or treating safely. I’ll share my plan with you. Put a table ten feet away from your front door with bags of treats,” said Dr. Rattay.

Dr. Rattay also reminds parents and trick or treaters that masks that are part of a costume typically don’t count as a face covering. She also says that indoor gatherings like Halloween parties should be limited in the number of people who attend, and everyone should wear a mask.
