DE church providing access to free WiFi with virtual cafe for students

MILFORD, Del. – A church in Sussex County is turning part of its building into a virtual cafe to give students access to wifi as they continue to learn remotely. Recently, the Avenue United Methodist Church realized a lot of children were having difficulty connecting to their internet at home, which in turn was impacting students’ ability to learn. So they decided to turn their cafe into a virtual one where any student can come to the church and use the space to connect to their internet to continue their online education, without running into any trouble.

“For us as a church we just saw the opportunity to provide a little bit of relief that parents can get help, that families can get help. As a church we think of it as our mission in providing hope and love for our community that God has for us to do the same,” said Pastor Steven LaMotte.

The virtual cafe will be running on Mondays and Thursdays from 8 AM until 3PM. They’re asking that elementary students have a parent present, and you must have a facemask. For a link to pre-register your child for any of those days click here.
