Salisbury University gives update on COVID-19 response

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University gave an update on its response to COVID-19 Thursday morning.

University president Dr. Charles Wight says Salisbury Unviersity has a positivity rate of 6.2%. He also says that students and staff getting tested have experienced delays in getting results back. Dr. Wight says that’s because the lab they are using changed the type of test they use.

Dr. Wight says over all – he doesn’t think the spread of COVID-19 among staff and students is happening on campus. He also says that the infection rate between students living on campus is significantly lower than those living off campus. “Most of the spread of Coronavirus in our community is actually not happening in classrooms, and probably not happening that much on campus. That’s simply because we are paying much more attention to behavior on campus,” said Dr. Wight.

Dr. Wight also says that anyone who has a reason to step foot on campus needs to be tested. He adds that moving forward – staff and students who visit campus will be tested on a monthly basis.
