Fruitland Vol. Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary rethinking fundraising amid COVID-19
FRUITLAND, Md. – The Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary is changing the way they’re raising funds because of COVID-19. Usually the group will host luncheons, BINGO, and other events to help raise funds for the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company. “A lot of our fundraising efforts have been nixed because of all of the COVID-19 and the pandemic we’re going through at this point. So we’ve had to cancel luncheons and we’ve had to cancel our BINGOs. So we’re hopefully getting up and running again,” said President Nicole Twilley.
Twilley says now they’re doing some virtual events – and are planning a drive through luncheon event for next Friday. “We are really trying to be respectful of those who are really trying to be cautious in regards to the precautions you have to take with the pandemic. So we’re trying to do reduce interactions. So people can stay in their cars,” said Twilley.
Twilley says the group wants to make sure they’re still continuing to support their local firefighters in whatever way they can. “We are just trying to make sure that the increased needs for protection for them – all the PPE they need to have now – they have to update equipment. They have to keep changing for the standards. Standards are constantly changing for them day to day. So with that is expenses,” said Twilley.
If you’d like to take part in the drive through luncheon and help support the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company, you can reach out to the Ladies Auxiliary to pre-order food. They’ll be offering oyster fritters, soup, chicken salad, and their famous dumplings. “We are only doing pre-orders for this because we are trying to have everything move efficiently through to reduce that interaction. We’ve never had a drive through. Usually people come and have time to sit and spend time with friends and family members,” said Twilley.
