Worcester County recovery walk going virtual

WORCESTER CO., Md. – The Atlantic Club and the Worcester County Warriors Against Opiate Addiction are teaming up to bring awareness to addiction and recovery, even in the midst of the pandemic.

The groups have moved their annual recovery walk online this year, inviting people to walk on their own, in small groups, or however they feel comfortable.

Heidi McNeeley and Laura Puckett, two of the organizers of the walk, tell 47 ABC they knew it was still important to hold the event this year even in a virtual format.

They say addiction didn’t go away during the pandemic and, if anything, some people could be struggling even more.

“Our recovery community still has the same needs, and especially in the middle of a pandemic, we’ve seen some real skyrocketing rates in addiction,” McNeeley said.

“I think the pandemic caused addiction to become even more prevalent in today’s world,” Puckett added.

If you would like to register for the walk, you can visit the Atlantic Club’s website. Registration is already open and the first one hundred people to register will receive a free goody bag.
