Worcester County looking at new riverboat attraction for Snow Hill, Pocomoke

WORCESTER CO., Md. – Worcester County officials are hoping to draw more people to the Snow Hill and Pocomoke City areas with a riverboat attraction.

The plans for a riverboat are in the early stages but officials brought it to the county’s attention during a meeting on Wednesday. They’re looking at a riverboat that would cost anywhere between $350,000 and $500,000. County officials describe the Pocomoke River as a gem and believe this would allow more people to enjoy it while helping boost tourism and even offer educational opportunities.

“This is the opportunity that can be operated year round. It’s got a dining facility, holds up to 150 passengers, special events. We’ve talked about gaming as an option you can do on the boat,” says Tom Perlozzo, the Director of Recreation and Parks, Tourism & Economic Development.

Perlozzo says county officials are still figuring out logistics like partnering with the towns of Snow Hill and Pocomoke, possible grants as well as potentially finding a private operator to start a business on the river.
