MD Tax Free Week starts Sunday

MARYLAND – Shop Maryland Tax Free Week is fast approaching. Starting Sunday August 9th, shoppers will get to enjoy big savings. Maryland’s Tax Free Week is typically associated with back to school shopping.

But president of the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce Bill Christopher says it’s important to remember anyone can take advantage of tax free week. That’s because things like clothes or shoes priced at $100 or less are completely exempt from the state’s sales tax. “It’s actually open to anyone. In fact it’s not about school supplies it’s about clothing. Really the backpack is the only item that becomes tax exempt. It really is about clothing. So I think it really is important to just get the word out so people know,” said Christopher.

Christopher also tells 47ABC that he hopes the incentive will get people back into small local businesses. That way they can get help when it comes to recovering financially from COVID-19. Tax Free Week ends on Saturday, August 15th.
