DNREC opening Climate Action Plan workshops to the public

DELAWARE – Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is putting together a series of workshops to complete a Climate Action Plan. “The Climate Action Plan is intended to minimize Delaware’s greenhouse gasses that drive the climate change we see today and maximize our resiliency to climate change,” said DNREC’s Administrator of Climate and Sustainability Programs Susan Love.

The workshops will be open to the public. Love says people would take part in discussing minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and resiliency. “Our goal is to make these workshops as fun and as interesting as possible for those who are going to spend valuable time with us learning about climate change and helping us strategize,” said Love.

DNREC says it’s important to make sure as many people are involved as possible. Love says that’s because climate change affects people in different ways depending on where they live. For example, climate change affects people in coastal areas differently than those in farming communities. “Plans like Delaware’s Climate Action Plan are made better when we have a large and diverse number of people participating and providing input. Despite our small size, communities in Delaware are tremendously varied, and each one is going to experience in a unique way,” said Love.

The workshops will take place between September 15th and October 1st. The plan is expected to to be completed in winter of 2021. Those who want to get involved can check out the Climate Action Plan website.
