Coronavirus hurting fundraising for the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department

HEBRON, Md. – The Hebron Volunteer Fire Department has canceled their annual firemen’s carnival this year due to COVID-19 and they say this is a huge loss for the fire department.

According to the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department President Gregory Howard, the fire department depends on proceeds that come from the carnival to run operations.

Howard says now they won’t be able to upgrade equipment this year until the money is readily available and that they’ll have to scale back on building maintenance as well.

He says that if the fire department is not able to hold the carnival next year there is a chance they’ll have to close.

“It’s very important that we do have it,” said Howard.

“We can live without it for a year, but beyond just this year of closing it’s probably not feasible to be able to keep operations open at the fire department that’s absolutely true,” said Howard.

The Hebron Volunteer Fire Department says they won’t be able to purchase new ambulances this year as well as a result of this year’s cancellation of the carnival.

They’re also hoping to get additional support from federal and state officials in the future to help keep operations going.

In order to generate the income needed to purchase items to protect citizens, the fire department says they will have a 30-day cash giveaway in September.
