HEBRON, Md. – The Hebron Volunteer Fire Department announced on Facebook Tuesday morning that this year’s Hebron Fireman’s Carnival is canceled.

This cancellation also includes the 4th of July fireworks display.

“With the unknown time of restrictions and uncertainty of large crowd gatherings and social distancing requirements set by the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we felt this was the best decision for our department and the health and safety of our patrons. This decision was tough, as our carnival has operated every year for the past 92 years,” officials said in a statement.

In order to generate income needed to purchase items to protect citizens, the fire department says they will have a 30 day cash giveaway in September. 2,500 tickets will be the maximum number of tickets sold for the event, with each ticket having four numbers. The winning numbers will be based on the Maryland Lottery Pick 4 midday and evening drawings. Cash prizes will range from $1500 to $10,000, based on the day of the week. Tickets will cost $50 and 1,800 tickets will need to be sold to have the event. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
