Car crashes into Wicomico River, injures one

SALISBURY, Md. – A car crashed into the Wicomico River Tuesday evening, injuring the driver.

The crash happened at around 7 p.m. in the area of West Carroll Street and North Division Street.

We’re told the driver crashed into a light pole, before crashing into the river.

First responders say the driver was able to get out of the car. They say he only had minor injuries, and was taken to the hospital to be treated.

The Salisbury Police Department and the Salisbury Fire Department responded to the scene.

Within an hour, crews were able to lift the car out of the water with the help of a tow company.

Fire crews tell us, this is not the first time a car has crashed into the Wicomico River this year.

Captain Doug Parker with the Salisbury Fire Department said, “For some reason, this is a popular area of the river where we have cars that either come down Waverly Drive or we’ve had a few further up river that have been in the river in the last year so.”

Police are still investigating to find out what exactly caused the crash.

We will post updates to this article as we learn more.
