Cambridge calling on candidates for city commission
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The city of Cambridge is asking residents to consider running for the city commission. “We’ve got the COVID virus going on and that’s made life a little different than normal, but we still have a lot of projects that are in motion,” said City Manager Patrick Comiskey.
Comiskey tells 47ABC that all five seats are up for election – as well as the position of mayor. Any person 25 or older who has lived in the area of Cambridge that they’re running for one year prior to October 17th of last year – is eligible.
Comiskey says that the upcoming election will be different from ones in the past because of how they’re getting ballots out. “This election is going to be one we’re very interested in because this is the first time we’re going to be mailing out a ballot to every registered voter in the city. So we’re expecting a significant – more than doubled – two to three times more turn out,” said Comiskey.
Comiskey says that the ballots will automatically go to the address listed on voter registrations. The election will be held on October 17th – and the deadline to apply for candidacy is September 2nd at 4 p.m.
