Talbot County providing residents with COVID-19 relief funds
TALBOT COUNTY, Md. – In Talbot County the local government has two new programs designed to help both businesses and individuals who have been impacted financially by COVID-19. “Each jurisdiction in Maryland received some of those CARES dollars, and they are making decisions as to how those dollars can be best utilized in their communities,” said Talbot County Social Services director Linda Webb.
The Talbot County director of social services says that federal money was given to the county to be used in the programs. “Talbot County council decided that some of those dollars should go to individual assistance for folks that have either lost their income or have had an income reduction as a result of the current public health emergency,” said Webb.
One program is the Individual Assistance Program, where applicants can apply for emergency assistance with things like rent, mortgage, and utilities. The other is the Small Business Emergency Relief Grant Program helps businesses with 50 employees or fewer. “The Talbot County council made an intentional decision that they, of course, wanted to help the economy, but also help the individuals in the county who had been hurt financially and its impact on the economy,” said Webb.
