Ocean City amusement parks reopen

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Miniature golf courses, go kart tracks, and amusement parks in Maryland are now allowed to reopen. “I think a lot of people are ready to get out of the house and ready to jump on a go cart and ready to get on the giant wheel and see the sights in Ocean City,” said Jolly Roger Amusements director of sales and marketing Dean Langrall.

Langrall says Jolly Roger has been preparing to reopen for weeks. “We think we’ve done a pretty good job of preparing and again to keep everybody safe but keep them happy,” said Langrall.

The Ocean City Hotel Motel and Restaurant Association executive director Susan Jones says that ever since Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s phase two announcement, their phones have been ringing off the hook. “The amusement parks were saying what can we do how far can we go and what are our guidelines so fortunately we were able to direct them where to go and they were able to have the guidance they need to open up today,” said Jones.

Langrall says staff are trained on how to safely interact with guests, and cleaning is a top priority. Mini-golf equipment and courses will be cleaned between players, as well as go karts. “Wiping down all of our go carts and all of our rides occasionally closing them down in order to make sure that they are safe and that our guest and our employees are safe,” said Langrall.

Jones tells 47ABC that the amusement parks will help draw people back to Ocean City and keep them entertained. “People have nothing to do all they do is congregate and we need to give them something to do to make sure we spread them throughout town,” said Jones.

Jolly Roger says they should be opening other parts of the park soon but they’re still working out the details. Langrall says that they’re not opening the rides on 30th street or their water park just yet. He also says that they’re still trying to figure out a way to make sure that water park guests can stay as safe as possible.
