Community helps Bubby’s Wing Shack after theft

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – A local restaurant owner is left asking for answers after some of her outdoor dining equipment was stolen. “This hit us hard. We were already trying to gradually buy some outside seating. We had just bought it the Friday before and it got stolen the next day. So, it takes a hit when you dwindle your savings down because of COVID,” said owner of Bubby’s Wing Shack Renee Mears.

Mears says that Saturday night someone stole a number of items. “We came in on Sunday and some of our outside seating was stolen. We had some tents, some flowers, hanging baskets, bases, chairs were missing,” said Mears.

Mears tells us that they had just bought the outdoor seating equipment on Friday, and that it’s a tough spot to be in as money is tight during COVID-19. The good news is that Mears says some of her loyal customers have stepped up and donated a tent and money. “It makes me know that our customers is what’s kept us going. This definitely wasn’t one of our customers. I believe that with all my heart, because they do take care of us. If it wasn’t for them through all this COVID we wouldn’t be open. So the support from our customers has been awesome,” said Mears.

Mears says she set up cameras around the outside of the restaurant in case the thief strikes again. In the meantime she’s working on ways to get customers in her seats during hot and rainy days.
