Shore Hatchery Competition going virtual
SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University’s Ratcliffe Shore Hatchery Competition is going virtual. The competition usually ends with a shark tank-style presentation. In the presentations, entrepreneurs can pitch their business ideas for the chance to win a grant. Shore Hatchery officials tells 47ABC the presentations will be done over the internet to comply with social distancing.
Judging will be done from home while competitors provide information about their ideas and explain how the funds would be used. The director of Shore Hatchery says quarantine could actually help entrepreneurs to get more creative. “Putting their energies to thoughts of coming up with innovation is going to help make for a stronger community, so I definitely encourage any entrepreneur or future entrepreneur to take this opportunity,” said Shore Hatchery director William Burke.
Up to $200,000 is up for grabs for winners of each year’s contest. Frozen Farmer’s Katey Evans who was recently featured on Shark Tank was awarded a grant from the Shore Hatchery back in 2018. The company used the $5,000 to buy a freezer.
