Salisbury community development project announced

SALISBURY, Md. – The city of Salisbury is beginning work on projects designed to improve the city, thanks to funds from the community development block grant. The project will allow about $170,000 in construction of sidewalks in low income neighborhoods. It will provide $25,000 for a community kitchen program manager to provide culinary programming for kids. Part of the grant will go towards buying and renovating the Truitt Community Center, which will be funded with $125,000.

Mayor Jake Day says revamping the center will provide important resources for youth. “We had nothing in the Church Street and [other] neighborhoods, which is a critical part of our community in terms of getting young people engaged. The alternative is you know kids finding their own ways to be engaged and sometimes they’re not always productive and positive,” said Mayor Day.

Mayor Day says a new classroom and a complete heating and ventilation system will be added to the Truitt Community Center. The city will also work on improving landscaping on the property. The mayor says the project should be complete by the end of 2021.
