Local leaders react to Gov. Hogan’s Roadmap to Recovery plan
SALISBURY, Md. – Governor Larry Hogan says the first steps out of the COVID-19 pandemic and back into normal life will come in stages. The governor says the steps are essential to getting the economy going again, and keeping people safe and healthy. “Other than keeping Marylanders safe – saving lives and defeating this hidden enemy – there is absolutely nothing more important to me than getting people back to work,” said Governor Hogan.
The governor says the key to the plan being successful is to take things slow and steady. “If we try to rush this and we don’t do it in a responsible and thoughtful way, it could cause a rebound of the virus, which could deepen the economic crisis,” said Governor Hogan.
Local leaders agree. Salisbury’s Mayor Jake Day says being careful and taking things slowly is the smart thing to do. “Ultimately our economy will start to return to some sense of normalcy in the coming weeks,” said Mayor Day.
Mayor Day says although the process of returning to normal life may be difficult, he’s excited to get the community’s economy and way of life back on track. “I think what it means for Salisbury is a return to the identity that we have – which is all about helping small entrepreneurs create something,” said Mayor Day.
Governor Hogan says he expects to begin the first stage of the plan in mid-May.
