Couple celebrates marriage in quarantine
BERLIN, Md. – This weekend a local couple celebrated love while on lock-down. Saturday was supposed to be the day they tied the knot, but things didn’t quite go as planned. They say that even with having to postpone their special day, Corey Zimmer and Hannah Wheeling still got to do something to mark the occasion. “It definitely made the day so much more special to get all the surprises, and we were just so excited when we walked out because we weren’t expecting it at all,” said Wheeling.
With the help of their family, the couple was able to celebrate the wedding day they had been planning for in a different kind of way. “My sisters had reached out to me and said that they wanted to buy us dinner to at least celebrate what was supposed to be our wedding day, and then Hannah’s mom said that she had a surprised planned for us,” said Zimmer.
Zimmer’s sisters and Hannah’s mom and aunt came together to create a special moment that the couple says they’ll never forget, complete with floral arrangements, candles, and a home-made wedding cake, courtesy of Hannah’s mom. “I knew she was making it. I did not expect that level of expertise with the floral pieces added into it. It was pretty spectacular, and it tasted phenomenal too,” said Zimmer.
The couple says even though it’s been stressful rescheduling and canceling all the aspects of their wedding, they and their family wanted to make the best of the situation. “I know in your head while you’re planning that date that you picked – this memory that you’re going to have your whole life – so it seems weird for it not to still make something special out of it,” said Wheeling.
Zimmer adds that the moment was personal, and let the couple reflect on what their marriage really meant. “It allowed us to have that moment together and kind of realize what exactly we wanted,” said Zimmer.
Wheeling says she’s grateful for Zimmer’s support in helping her to plan everything. Wheeling also tells us that vendors and their venue have been very helpful in allowing the couple to cancel and reschedule their special day. The couple isn’t officially married, but they say they’re looking into ways to get a marriage license soon. Meanwhile, the couple says they’re hoping that the sound of real wedding bells isn’t too far in the distance.
