Changes coming to Maryland’s online portal for unemployment claims

MARYLAND, Md. – After a number 0f issues, some changes are coming to Maryland’s online portal for unemployment claims.

On Monday, the Maryland Department of Labor’s Division of Unemployment Insurance announced that to avoid future crashes, the port called BEACON will be taken down nightly between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. until further notice.

That’s not all, the Department of Labor also announced that a virtual waiting line has been implemented. This is to prevent an overload of the system.

The Department of Labor also announced that a gating system has been introduced. That system makes it so that on Sundays and Mondays, only customers who are filing weekly claim certifications can file, and on Tuesdays through Saturdays, customers can file new claims.

In a statement, the Department of Labor acknowledged that they understand the launch of the BEACON site has fallen short, but they promised Marylanders they would, “Do better.”
