Visitors and non-residents asked to leave Chincoteague Island
CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND, Va. – The Town of Chincoteague announced on Monday that they are asking all visitors and non-residents to leave the island by noon on Tuesday, March 24th.
In addition, those who are planning to come to the island should postpone their trip until further notice. All hotels, motels, cottages, bed and breakfasts, home rental companies, Airbnb’s, and campgrounds are asked to not accept any new reservations until further notice.
We’re told this is in an effort to reduce the number of possible individuals that could require medical care, whether it be from the coronavirus or standard medical emergencies. Officials expect these resources to be stretched beyond capacity at some point and feel it is necessary to reduce that possibility.
