Open for Business: Realty industry on Eastern Shore still up and running

SALISBURY, Md. – Despite the worldwide panic surrounding COVID-19, it seems the realty industry here on the shore is showing no signs of slowing down.

“I’ve seen no difference. People still want to sell,” said Team Manager for the Ashley Realty Group with ERA Martin & Associates, Jeff Ashely.

“It has caused a lot of changes but real estate is still moving forward,” said Realtor with Ashley Realty Group with ERA Martin & Associates, Nancy Ashley.

Those changes include realtors now limiting tours of homes to only one person at a time, and also becoming even more meticulous when it comes to cleaning after showings are over. This, all in an effort to help stop the spread of the virus.

“The clients are instructed not to touch anything. Just view the home and leave, and we will take care of wiping the house, and the lights, and everything,” said Nancy

But realtors Nancy and Jeff Ashley are going the extra mile by offering virtual tours to potential buyers.

“We’ll go and take a video of the home and describe some of the features that are important to that particular client that are in that home and send them the video via email,” said Jeff.

But despite making some changes to the way they sell and show their homes, Nancy and Jeff tell 47 ABC they still face some challenges when it comes to settlements. A part that plays a crucial role in the closing process.

“Usually we have everybody sitting at the settlement table where nowadays we’re trying to do more from a distance. We’ll try to do settlements where the buyers and sellers are in different rooms or possibly different days they’re done, there are several different ways to do it,” said Jeff.

And while the future of the realty industry is still up in the air, for now, these realtors will do whatever it takes to get the job done.

“People still have to move, they still have to move on and they want to move on, and other people want to buy homes so we’re still helping people and it definitely helps us feed our families too,” said Jeff.
