BREAKING: Ocean City beach, boardwalk closed to slow the spread of COVID-19

Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md. – If you were planning a trip to the Ocean City beach or boardwalk anytime soon, you’ll likely have to cancel. Officials with the city announced on Sunday that the beach and boardwalk are closed, effective at 5 p.m. on Sunday, until April 15. The closure comes as city officials are doing everything they can to slow the spread of COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus.

In a release, Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan said, “At this time, we continue to request that visitors postpone traveling to Ocean City…” Mayor Meehan went on to request that non-resident property owners also refrain from visiting the city.

City officials say residents of the city will be allowed to exercise or walk dogs on the beach or boardwalk, but are required to be in groups of no more than two adults and children at any time. If those rules are ignored, city officials say they will adjust the rules.
