The Rotary Club of Wicomico County will be awarding $21,000 in three scholarships in 2020

WICOMICO CO., Md.– The Rotary Club of Wicomico County will be rewarding some worthy students with $21,000 in three scholarships in 2020.

Dr. Joseph Heher joined 47 ABC’s Erica Murphy on the desk to explain how the meaning and purpose of the scholarships.

Dr. Heher says the scholarship is from the Rotary Club of Wicomico County.  He also says, there are two $5000 scholarships spread over 4 years, one $10,000 scholarship spread over 4 years, and one $2000 one-year scholarship exclusively for Parkside CTE students. Home schooled students are also eligible to receive the scholarships as well.

Dr. Heher also explains that the scholarship is available to any resident in Wicomico County going to any accredited school of higher education in the United States. But, students who’s parents or grandparents are Rotarians, will not be eligible.

The scholarships are funded by a group of between 50 to 55 civic and business leaders to demonstrate the Rotary Club’s priority of how important they feel higher education is for students of Wicomico County.

Dr. Heher also explains that to keep the scholarship throughout the four years in college, the recipient has to maintain a 3.0 GPA on 4.0 grading scale.

The scholarship information and application is available from guidance counselors at various public and private schools in the area. Home schooled children can download the application and get more information from the website at www.wicomicorotary.com.
