‘Quilts of Valor’ honor veterans in Delaware

OCEAN VIEW, Del. – On Saturday, nearly 50 women from across the First State joined forces in Ocean View to help create quilts of valor for two Vietnam War veterans.

The event took place at the Mason Dixon VFW Post 7234.

Each of these women created different sections for the two quilts and used the colors of the US flag as part of their design.

Their mission as a group is to give comfort and healing to military service members and veterans through quilts.

Organizers say these quilts of valor make a positive impact on the veterans that receive them.

“We need to recognize what our service members are doing for us and what our veterans have done for us to keep our nation free to honor their sacrifices and their service and these quilts mean a lot to the veterans that are receiving them,” said Dana Mason, a coordinator at the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

Organizers say this cause is close to the hearts of many of the women who participated on Saturday and that is because many of the women have family members who served our country.
