Laurel wins 16th straight to claim Henlopen South title

Bulldogs first division crown in 17 years

FELTON, De- The Laurel Bulldogs boys basketball team won their 16th straight game, defeating Lake Forest 65-58 on Thursday night in Felton. The victory moved Laurel to 18-2 on the season and clinched their first Henlopen South crown since 2003.

“It was a long ride from Woodbridge (on December 12th), when we got whipped by 35,” said Laurel head coach Kevin Walmsley. “But alot of credit to our kids, we went to practice the next day and put our nose to the grind and started going after it.”

Laurel was led offensively by their three headed monster. Freshmen Dontarious Jones (18 points) and Kylse Wilson (16 points) we’re accompanied by sophomore Javier White (14 points) to lead the charge. Down 27-25 at the half, the ‘Dawgs outscored 22-16, including a barrage of three pointers by the aforementioned underclassmen.

They would coast the 4th quarter to earn their 18th win of the season, after just 6 wins a year ago. Laurel moves to take on Dover in the 2020 Henlopen Championship game on Friday, Feb. 28th at Dover High School.
