UPDATE: Delaware State Police investigating fatal pedestrian crash

2:30 p.m. UPDATE: Police have released more details about this morning’s fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

We’re told the incident happened at around 6:40 a.m. A Hyundai Sonata was traveling eastbound on John J. Williams Highway, and a Hyundai Tucson was traveling behind the Sonata. A pedestrian was trying to cross the highway on foot, directly into the path of the Sonata. The driver of the Sonata was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian. The driver of the Tuscon was also unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian. Both drivers remained on scene.

The pedestrian was a 47-year-old Millsboro woman. Police say she did not have a light, nor was she wearing reflective clothing. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Sonata, a 59-year-old Millsboro woman, and the driver of the Tuscon, a 40-year-old Seaford woman, were both properly restrained and were not injured.


MILLSBORO, Del. — Delaware State police are investigating a serious crash involving a pedestrian that happened just after 6:40 a.m., Thursday morning in Millsboro.

As of 7:00 a.m., police say they are currently on the scene of the crash in Millsboro.

Authorities say that John J. Williams Highway, between Gull Point Road and Rosedale Road, Millsboro,  is currently closed.

Police say motorists and commuters should expect traffic delays and should avoid the area if possible.

The investigation is in its early stages. We will release updates as they become available.
