Blood Bank gears up for largest annual donation event

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Officials are gearing up for the Blood Bank of Delmarva’s largest blood drive.

The 21st annual blood drive is happening Tuesday and Wednesday at the Ocean City Convention Center. Organizers say the hundreds of expected donations will help supply all 19 local hospitals. The event is timed during January which is also Blood Donor Month because it’s a time of the year when the blood donation supply is typically low.

“We’re going to get about 600 people and that’s about 300 each day. That’s almost the entire supply that we need in one given day. That’s compared to four donor centers and maybe two or three blood drives in addition to that, that we have daily,” says Tony Prado, the marketing communications specialist for the Blood Bank of Delmarva.

Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are accepted. You have to be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be feeling healthy. All donors will get a free long sleeve t-shirt and be entered to win a 42 inch TV. See details below for more information about the drive.

The Ocean City Blood Drive is on Tuesday, January 21st from 10 am to 6 pm and Wednesday, January 22nd 8 am to 4 pm at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center. To book an appointment, visit delmarvablood.org or call 1-888-825-6638. Use sponsor code OCCC to register.
