Hundreds line Main Street for annual Berlin parade

BERLIN, Md. – Lights, music, dancing, lots of Christmas cheer, and hundreds of people lining Main Street, that’s what the annual Christmas parade brought to Berlin on Thursday.

“Everybody packed the street, there’s Christmas carols, there’s lights their sirens there’s all kinds of stuff and everybody is in a good mood and it’s just it is Christmas,” Doug Grimes, a Berlin resident, said.

For some, this was their first time seeing this massive parade.

“Just moved to Maryland a few years ago and I’ve never been,” Luke Blazej, a parade-goer, said.

“First time, we got a place down in Assateague point, been coming to Ocean City for all of our life, but first time we’re going to see the Berlin parade,” Bo Schultz, another parade-goer, said.

For others, it’s a yearly tradition that they will not miss.

“I book myself every year now, I come back every year,” Cecilia Hazel, from Baltimore County, said.

“It’s a yearly tradition, we come every year we live in Berlin and it really isn’t Christmas unless we come down to Main Street to see the parade,” Grimes said.

Some made sure they went all out to deck the halls, or themselves.

“I just decided to go to the dollar store and pick us up some stuff, we were at the tree lighting last weekend and everybody was decorated and we weren’t, so I said next week we’re going to be decorated,” Schultz said.

“It’s very festive, I’m wearing my hat,” Blazej added.

Each person coming out for their own favorite part of the festivities.

“The floats get better and better every year, I mean they just get amazing,” Shelley Bruder, a local business owner, said.

“See Santa, of course, if he’s out here,” Blazej added.

Everyone was happy to be gathered under the fake snow, to get into the Christmas spirit.
