Adopting a pet for the holidays? Here’s things to consider

GEORGETOWN, Del. – With the holidays right around the corner, plenty of people will be gifting pets as presents this year.

But that’s something that local shelters say you should really consider before doing.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA tells 47 ABC that this is a great time to get shelter pets out into their forever homes, but they want to be sure it will be a permanent home.

To be sure of that, the shelter says there are some things you should think about before adopting this time of year.

“Just like any time of year you’re going to want tothink about all of the same things, so people are going to want to think about whether you’re adopting this as a gift or keeping it as your own, you’re going to want to think about the time commitment of having a pet,” Carla DiGiacomo with the shelter said.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA is also hosting a fostering event right now for the holidays. For more information, you can contact the shelter.
