Smyrna man arrested on drug charges during traffic stop

SMYRNA, Del. – Smyrna Police arrested a man on multiple charges following a traffic stop Tuesday morning.

The arrest was a result of a month’s long drug investigation involving 30-year-old Ernest Jones. A search warrant was executed at Jones’ residence in the unit block of W Commerce Street, finding 1,335 bags of heroin packaged for sale (weighing approx. 9.345 grams), along with $2,700 in suspected drug money.

Police say Jones’ two small children were also present at the time of the search.

Jones was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a tier 5 quantity, maintaining a drug property, conspiracy second, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He is currently being held on a $15,500 cash bond pending a future court hearing.
