New Seaford school celebrates $7.6 million in funding

SEAFORD, Del. – A new school in Seaford is well on its way to becoming a reality. On Monday, the Sussex Montessori Charter School announced that it secured millions in funding.

The public charter school says it took in $7.6 million from PNC Bank and a USDA Rural Development grant. The school, which is tuition free, is right around the corner from West Seaford Elementary School. Officials say it will offer something new to the area and give families another education option.

“We’ll find out what works here and we’ll be able to use those ideas and infuse those ideas intro other schools here in this community, in Sussex County and well beyond,” says U.S. Senator Tom Carper, a Democrat who represents Delaware.

“Typically, Montessori Schools have been associated to be private and pretty exclusive. We’re excited to be a public charter school so we are open to all Delaware students,” says Kaneisha Trott, the Community Engagement Specialist for Sussex Montessori.

The school is set to open in the fall of 2020. Right now, applications are open for grades K through 3.
