Fruitland Falcons, Salisbury Rhinos team up for “Turkey Bowl”
FRUITLAND, Md- Two local youth football programs teamed up on Wednesday night for what could turn out to be a yearly tradition. The Salisbury Rhinos and Fruitland Falcons met for a battle dubbed the Turkey Bowl, one day before Thanksgiving.
The Salisbury Rhinos are an American Youth Football travel team in the Salisbury area with teams aged 8u, 10u, 12u, and 14u. The team recently accepted the invitation to play in a youth football Hall of Fame tournament in Canton, Ohio.
The Fruitland Falcons are an 8-man football program dedicated to the development of fundamentals to all players in their league. With Fruitland as one of the few youth facilities with lights, the two programs are in talks for the Rhinos to get a few practices under the lights in Fruitland.
“It’s very important, our old practice field didn’t have lights. We we’re using car lights.” said Rhinos player Vernon DeShields. “Its youth football, if we can help the local teams, we’re very fortunate.” said Shane Wootten, Falcons Head Coach.
Both programs say they are fully committed to promoting youth football on Delmarva.
