Cape shuts out Padua; wins 8th state championship in 9 years

Vikings nab third straight DIAA crown

GEORGETOWN, De- The Cape Henlopen field hockey team won their third straight DIAA field hockey state title, defeating Padua 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The game would be scoreless more than 45 minutes into the game, when Cape struck. Noelle Sabbagh would get her stick on a ball rolling around the circle with just under 13 minutes remaining in the game to give the Vikings the late 1-0 lead.

Cape Henlopen would get one last goal from Samantha Conners with just under seven minutes left in the game to seal things up.

The win is Cape head coach Kate Austin’s 7th state title in her career.
