Preston church supports community with blessing box

PRESTON, Md. – One local church in Preston is pushing efforts to help people in need.

The Bethesda United Methodist Church recently installed a new blessing box on their main street.

According to church members, there is a big need within the community.

People will get the chance to donate hygiene products and food at anytime and those who are in need all they have to do is open the door and grab the items.

According to church members, they got inspired after churches across Caroline County started their own blessing boxes.

“These are our neighbors, and you may not know that your neighbor next door to you is hungry,” said Nikki Oakes, member of the Bethesda United Methodist Church.

“So, they’re able to come here freely as they please and when they’re able to come get food,” said Oakes.

According to Oakes, anyone can come out to the church at anytime and donate.

She adds that the church hopes to install more of these blessing boxes in the future.
