Somerset high school students get pharmacy experience at PRMC
SALISBURY, Md. – On Monday Somerset County Technical High School students had the chance to work hands on with PRMC’s pharmacy department. In the morning, students worked closely with hospital pharmacists to take part in a number of mock exercises like reading and filling prescriptions. This provided the high school students with hands-on experience in drug discovery and biomedical research. It also helped to give them the tools they will need to succeed in the medical field.
The Director of Pharmacy at PRMC said “We really want to cultivate the talent we have here on the eastern shore and we’d love to see people be nurses, pharmacists, and doctors. I think it kind of gives them what I call a peek behind the curtain, because normally they wouldn’t kind of have those kinds of experiences so it definitely makes us feel good. We always want to give back to the community.”
Hospital officials say they also offer these opportunities to anyone who’s interested in pursuing a career in pharmaceuticals. If you would like to take them up on that offer just head to PRMC’s website here.
