Laurel falls to Brandywine in second annual ‘Battle of the Bone’
LAUREL, Del.- After leading 7-6 at the half, the Laurel Bulldogs surrendered that lead, falling to Brandywine 27-7 in the second annual Battle of the Bone. The loss drops Laurel to 0-1 to start the season.
It was a rough start for the home team, six penalties on the opening drive but they down the opening punt at the one. Starting at their own one yard line Brandywine took their first play of the season 99 yards, Rah’Heir Marks to Andre’ Mottas for the opening touchdown. Brandywine would miss the extra point so they took the 6-0 lead.
On the ensuing drive, Laurel would respond. Freshman QB Kaden Shockley hit Preston Chambers for his first career touchdown and the Bulldogs take a one point lead midway through the first quarter. A few fumbles and penalties on both sides taken into halftime kept the score at 7-6.
Straight out of the break, Brandywine took the opening drive 65 yards and into the end zone with a second Marks to Mottas TD connection. Brandywine would pour it on from there and take the Battle of the Bone 27-7.
Laurel will look to get in the win column when they return to the field next Friday when they take on Hodgson Vo-Tech at 7:30.
