UPDATE: Serious crash in Seaford claims life of one
SEAFORD, Del. – Delaware State Police say the serious crash that happened in Seaford Monday afternoon has claimed the life of one and injured three others.
According to police, at around 3:30 p.m., a Fiat Coupe was stopped at the intersection of Asbury Road at County Seat Highway (Route 9), intending to turn left. A Ford Mustang was approaching the Fiat from the rear, while a Ford Econoline van was traveling westbound on County Seat Highway approaching the same intersection. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Mustang failed to notice that the Fiat was stopped, hitting the Fiat in the rear as a result. The impact cause the Fiat to spin into the westbound lane, directly into the path of the van. The van then hit the Fiat, causing it to overturn onto its roof.
The driver of the Fiat, identified as 48-year-old Hope Jackson of Seaford, was properly restrained at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mustang, a 36-year-old Georgetown man, was properly restrained and was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was later released.
The driver of the van, a 43-year-old Salisbury man, was properly restrained and was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the van was reportedly not properly restrained and was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.
