Wicomico Co. Public Schools builds new security vestibules

SALISBURY, Md. – Several schools in Wicomico County are expanding security measures this summer.

A new doorway has been added to schools like Wicomico Middle School as well as Prince Street Elementary, Pemberton Elementary, Delmar Elementary and Pinehurst Elementary.

According to Wicomico County Public Schools, the added doorway will stop people from getting direct access to students and staff.

Wicomico Middle School has also constructed a new office for people to sign in before entering the facilities.

“As we have in the past some devastating school shootings and Wicomico Public Schools is one of the ‘be proactive,’ so we’ve started to institute these school vestibules,” said the Director of Communication for Wicomico County Schools, Paul Butler.

According to Butler, construction started before the start of the summer and is expected to be completed before the beginning of the new school year.
