Prince Street Elementary hosts Title 1 workshop
SALISBURY, Md. – Almost 200 Wicomico County educators are perfecting their craft this week at Prince Street Elementary.
Prince Street Elementary is hosting a 4 day long workshop for eight Title 1 schools across the county. Title 1 schools face unique challenges because they have a high amount of low income students and receive federal funding. Principal Jason Miller says, despite its Title 1 status, Prince Street has seen success and he wants to share tools to inspire other teachers.
“We’ve also talked about music and games and how to bring those into the classroom, to try and change students thinking from ‘I have to come to school’ to ‘I want to come to school’. And then by having them more engaged in the classroom and increasing your academic rigor then student achievement will of course come along,” says Jason Miller, the principal of Prince Street Elementary.
Miller says Prince Street’s unique approach has helped create a healthy school culture and even lowered office referrals by 85 percent.
