July 2019 Ranked Hottest on Record Globally; 8th Hottest for Salisbury

July was one for the record books, not just Globally, but here on Delmarva too.
Salisbury ended up making it into the top 10 when it comes to the hottest July’s on record. July 2019 has officially been ranked the 8th warmest ever recorded in Salisbury. The high temperature for July 2019 in Salisbury was 90.4°, which is 3.9° above average. There were several heat waves and 20+ days with temperatures at or above 90 degrees. When it comes to the entire Earth, July 2019 has been ranked as the hottest month ever recorded, according to The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The previous hottest July was in 2016. July 2019 beat July 2016 by about 0.07°.
Record high temperatures were shattered across the Globe in July, wildfires raged across parts of the Arctic, and sea ice decreased to record lows. One of the most northern inhabitable areas on Earth, Alert, Nunavut, recorded a record high of 69.8° on July 14. The average high in this area, just 600 miles from the North Pole, is 44.6°. Anchorage, Alaska hit 90 degrees for the first time in recorded history on July 4th. However, there were some cold spots in July. Parts of Scandanavia and Russia had a colder than average July.
But when it comes to climate and the Earth as a whole, the data shows there is change and that it is warming quickly. Records continue to shatter in such a short period of time too, with nine of the 10 hottest Julys occurring just since 2005—with the last five years ranking as the five hottest.
