Delaware woman faces close to 50 charges after alleged hit and run spree
OCEAN CITY, Md. – A 23-year-old is facing close to 50 charges after she allegedly hit at least two cars while driving drunk in Ocean City, and kept driving instead of pulling over.
Police say it happened at around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday night on Coastal Highway.
According to charging documents, 23-year-old Paige Tomczak of New Castle County Delaware first hit a car at 75th Street on Coastal Highway.
Buddy Martin, who lives nearby, says he heard the sound of the impact.
Martin said, “We hear accidents quite often actually, and it just sounded like an accident. We came outside there was really like nothing here.”
Buddy says all that remained was debris from the crash. That’s because charging documents suggest Tomczak fled the scene and drove up to 81st Street where she crossed the intersection and hit another car, almost head on.
Tina Limber, an Ocean City Visitor said, “They think they’re invincible and they can do anything and nobody is going to get hurt. They don’t think about the consequences.”
Police say Tomczak eventually pulled into a public parking lot on 85th Street, and tried to run away on foot. When witnesses tried to stop her, police say Tomzcak scratched one of them and pulled their hair.
When police later arrived on scene, they say Tomczak kicked an officer on his right leg several times.
If found guilty, Tomczak faces some serious fines and jail time.
People we spoke with say this all could have been avoided, if Tomczak had just gotten a ride home.
Martin said, “It’s only a couple dollars to jump on the bus.”
According to charging documents, Tomczak seriously injured one person Tuesday night. Police say they found marijuana, Adderall, three open cans of beer and a knife in her car.
Tomczak has been released on bond. She is due to appear in court on November 22nd.
