Bike Fest will be Ocean City’s first zero waste event

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Bike Fest is right around the corner and this year, it is going to be a little bit more green than usual. That’s because Go Green OC is attempting to make Bike Week Ocean City’s first zero waste event.

The non-profit will be working with vendors to get them to use all compostable and renewable materials.

On top of that, the non-profit will be taking thousands of aluminum cans to a recycling center during the four day event, something that was made possible by sponsors like Pit-N-Pub and the Town of Berlin.

The organization will also be collecting donations during the event that will go towards their composting program.

Members of Go Green OC say the main component of all of this is source reduction awareness.

Garvey Heiderman, the Director of Compost Operations for Go Green OC said, “We are just trying to get some exposure of that in Ocean City by creating these events and having it be the norm because there are events like this that happen all over the country and we just haven’t done one yet, so this is just kind of a cool collaborative effort with them.”

Bike Fest will be taking place from Septemeber 12th to September 15th.
